The Great Guana Cay Generalizations…

What should you expect? Guana is one of the last remaining barrier islands in the Abaconian keys that has retained its laid back character. A few feet from the waters edge of the bay is the one main cart path through the village. It isn’t wide enough for two golf carts to pass one another. There is a grocery store, a church, and a handful of little converted home/shops. There are no bright lights, few bars for hopping and a very minimal night life.
It’s a quiet island community featuring one of the best stretches of beach in this hemisphere. The coral reef runs the length of the island; there are few equals on the planet. Depending on your location, the reef is as close as 50 yards or as far as 300. In either case, it is teeming with sea life. Dolphins, turtles, lobsters, astonishing abundant various species of fish, will amaze anyone who knows how to snorkel. Scuba isn’t really necessary to enjoy the marine life.
The beach house is exactly that. It was built to facilitate a family or group with their main focus being the beach and water activities. It is built in a perfect location to take advantage of the ocean view; the sights and sounds of the water are every where. It is tastefully appointed and comfortable with 4 bedrooms and 1 ½ baths.
Finally, understand that Great Guana Cay is unique. People will wave to you and say hello, even if they don’t know you. It is unwise to prejudge the island or its people until you get to know the unique charm of the place. Do not mistakenly assume that someone you see sleeping the day away under a palm tree is a bum. It is quite possible they are fluent is several languages and make a living trading commodity futures online. On Guana Cay, the last laugh is often politely inaudible.
